Due to a significant deterioration in weather conditions and a decrease in air temperature, the government has decided to change the format of work in educational institutions and establishments. Central and local authorities have been instructed to urgently address the safety of the educational process and organization of work in the regions. This is reported by Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenk.

Distance learning in Ukraine until January 19, 2026

The Ministry of Education and Science, along with other central executive authorities, regional and Kyiv city military administrations, are recommended:

  • to temporarily suspend in-person educational processes;
  • to switch to distance learning or continue winter holidays at least until January 19, 2026.

The decision applies to preschool education institutions, general secondary, vocational, pre-higher, and higher education. Final decisions will be made considering the conclusions of the commissions on technogenic and ecological safety and emergency situations, and the real situation in the regions.

Remote work of institutions during deteriorating weather

Regional and Kyiv city military administrations are recommended to jointly consider the possibility of transferring enterprises, institutions, and organizations to a remote work mode for the period of complicated weather conditions.

At the same time, these recommendations do not apply to critical infrastructure facilities and other entities for which remote work is unacceptable under martial law. Local governments are advised to take these decisions into account within their powers.

Let us remind you that the Kyiv region is facing deterioration of weather conditions, snowfalls, wet snow, fog, and ice are expected until January 10.
