The government in Ukraine has introduced new incentives for the development of distributed generation. This was reported by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
The heating season in the country is taking place under difficult conditions with daily enemy attacks on energy infrastructure. To ensure greater energy resilience for communities in such conditions, new decentralized generation facilities have been introduced, including cogeneration plants. They are capable of producing both heat and electricity simultaneously, ensuring decentralization and additional resilience during outages, emphasized Yulia Svyrydenko.
Special conditions for cogeneration plants
The government has set a special gas price for cogeneration plants in frontline regions. This will allow the price of natural gas for electricity and heat producers to decrease. These conditions will be in effect for one year.
“Many power plants in frontline regions operate on gas and provide balance to the energy system during peak loads. A stable and predictable gas price allows them to plan their operations, enter into new contracts, and provide electricity when it is critical,” said the Prime Minister.
Simplification of the installation of distributed generation facilities
The government has simplified the procedure for installing gas facilities of various capacities. Now there are no capacity restrictions, allowing more communities, schools, and businesses to install such facilities.
The government has also resumed the competition for the construction of new generating facilities and simplified the permitting process for drilling wells for cogeneration facilities. These measures are aimed at more effectively providing energy and heat to the population and businesses.
The government in Ukraine actively supports and develops distributed generation, which helps ensure the stability of energy supply under unfavorable circumstances. The new incentives and special conditions for cogeneration facilities will contribute to the growth of the decentralized generation potential in the country.
