Pay Raises for Educators and Social Sector Professionals

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has passed a resolution to increase the official salaries for teachers and social sector workers starting January 1, 2026. This move is designed to channel additional state subsidies to local budgets specifically for the wages of education and social service personnel. This policy addresses long-standing concerns about compensation in these vital public sectors.

Developed by the Ministry of Finance, the resolution stipulates that extra state budget subsidies will be used to raise pay for pedagogical, scientific-pedagogical staff, and specialists providing social and rehabilitation services. The government has emphasized the importance of fulfilling its prior commitments, specifically referencing Cabinet Resolutions No. 1749 and No. 1750, which were adopted on December 26, 2025.

Implementation and Oversight

To ensure effective execution, the Ministry of Finance will monitor local budget performance and coordinate with regional military administrations. The Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity will provide sector-specific coordination for the salary increases. These measures aim to improve working conditions for Ukraine's teachers and social workers.

The salary boost represents a significant step toward better labor conditions in fields that have historically been marked by low pay. The additional state funding is also expected to help attract new specialists and retain qualified personnel in the education and social sectors. This initiative underscores the government's stated priorities in developing social infrastructure and supporting professions crucial to societal well-being.
