One-Time Cash Assistance for Ukraine's Independence Day in 2026
Starting in 2026, eligible Ukrainians will receive a one-time cash payment tied to Independence Day. The government has finalized the amounts, and most recipients will get the money automatically under a resolution passed by the Cabinet of Ministers. This initiative is part of Ukraine's broader social support framework, ensuring that vulnerable groups receive aid during national celebrations.
Several categories of citizens qualify for this assistance:
- 3,100 UAH — Individuals with special merits to Ukraine;
- 3,100 UAH — People with war-related disabilities;
- 3,100 UAH — Former juvenile prisoners of Nazi camps with Group I disability;
- 2,900 UAH — Individuals with Group II disability;
- 2,700 UAH — Individuals with Group III disability;
- 1,000 UAH — Combatants, affected participants of the Revolution of Dignity, former minor prisoners of concentration camps, and children born in places of forced detention;
- 650 UAH — Family members of deceased or fallen war veterans, Defenders of Ukraine, and spouses of deceased war-disabled persons or combatants who have not remarried;
- 450 UAH — War veterans, former prisoners of concentration camps, those forcibly deported for labor, and children of partisans and underground fighters.
A key point is that most people will not need to apply, as the government has pre-approved the sums and they will be disbursed automatically. For those receiving pensions, housing subsidies, or utility benefits and not serving in the military, the funds will be transferred in August alongside these regular payments. For war veterans currently on active duty, the money will be sent to the accounts of their respective military units, institutions, or organizations.
Only individuals who are eligible but do not receive a pension, subsidy, or benefit and are not serving in the military will need to submit an application. These applicants must contact their local office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine. The application must include:
- Tax identification number;
- Personal identification document details;
- Bank account information;
- Details from the certificate confirming eligibility for the payment.
Applicants must also attach a copy of their status document and a copy of their passport.
If a person becomes eligible for the payment before August 24 but has not received it by October 1, they can submit an application and receive the funds by November 1. Documents can be submitted by mail, in person at a Pension Fund service center or a Citizens' Service Center (TsNAP), or online through the Pension Fund's e-services portal.
This cash assistance program reflects the Ukrainian government's efforts to support vulnerable populations, emphasizing social justice and the observance of national holidays.
The automated payment mechanism is designed to reduce the administrative burden on recipients. However, it remains crucial that those not covered by automatic processing can easily access their aid by filing a claim. This step could play a significant role in strengthening the country's social safety net.
As the government prepares to implement these one-time cash payments, it has also broadened the criteria for eligibility, ensuring that more citizens can benefit from this initiative.
