Government Fortifies Energy Security for Winter Threats
Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko convened a meeting with Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, to address national energy security for the winter season. The discussion focused on measures to maintain energy supply in frontline regions, preparing for freezing temperatures and potential attacks on gas infrastructure. This planning is crucial as Russia's war has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's energy grid, making resilience a top priority.
In preparation for the cold, Ukraine has mobilized over 2,000 gas service workers operating in 474 emergency crews. This force enables a rapid response to potential disruptions and helps ensure stable gas supply. Additionally, the government has provided 1,750 electric and gas heaters to Kherson to support residents during the frost.
Improving the National Energy Situation
To improve the country's energy situation, gas imports totaling 5.7 billion cubic meters are planned for 2025. An allocation of 8 billion hryvnias from the state budget has been made to implement these measures. Yuliia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude, stating:
“I thank each and every one”for their efforts in strengthening Ukraine's energy security. She further emphasized that these actions
“have allowed us to replace the volumes of domestic production lost due to massive missile strikes.”
The regions under special monitoring and control include:
- Chernihiv
- Kharkiv
- Sumy
- Donetsk
- Zaporizhzhia
- Mykolaiv
- Dnipropetrovsk
The government continues its work to reinforce energy security, aiming to guarantee reliable energy supply for all regions of the country under these challenging conditions.
These efforts to bolster Ukraine's energy security are critically important amid growing threats to its infrastructure. Winter preparedness and the implementation of new measures not only promote supply stability but also provide vital support to populations in frontline areas, which bear the brunt of the conflict's consequences. The mobilization of a significant number of specialists and the provision of aid to vulnerable groups demonstrate the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of its citizens during an ongoing national emergency.
