New government resolution of Ukraine to support IDPs
The government of Ukraine has adopted a new resolution to support internally displaced persons (IDPs), which will allow communities to receive compensation for utility expenses and simplify the process of providing assistance. From now on, compensation can be received for a period of up to two months, which will significantly ease the financial burden on communities hosting IDPs.
According to the new rules, utility expenses will be compensated even for facilities where people have not yet received IDP status. The amount of compensation will be calculated based on the actual number of days that people reside in the facility. This will ensure a more efficient use of budget funds and expedite the financing process.
Changes in social norms and processes
Moreover, the social housing norm is increased from 13.65 m² to 21 m² of heated space per person. The procedure for confirming expenses becomes simpler, which will positively affect the speed and efficiency of providing assistance to internally displaced persons. Thus, the new changes are aimed at improving the living conditions of IDPs and supporting local communities.
This government initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on communities hosting IDPs and enhance their adaptation to new conditions. The increase in social housing norms and the simplification of the assistance process may become important steps in ensuring decent living conditions for people who have been forced to leave their homes due to war or other circumstances.
