Kharkiv native wins historic gold for the USA at the 2026 Olympics

At the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, the women's figure skating champion was determined. The gold was won by USA representative Alice Liu, who was born in Kharkiv. Football24 reports this.

The American scored 226.7 points, finishing third after the short program and climbing to first place in the free skating results. Silver was awarded to Kaori Sakamoto from Japan, and bronze went to her compatriot Ami Nakai.

Olympics 2026: USA gold in women's figure skating

The final results of the tournament are as follows:

  • Alice Liu (USA) – 226.7 points

  • Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) – 224.90 points

  • Ami Nakai (Japan) – 219.16 points.

For Team USA, this is the first individual Olympic gold in women's figure skating in the last 24 years. In addition, Liu became a two-time champion of the 2026 Games, having previously won the team competition with her teammates.

After the 2022 Games, Alice Liu announced her retirement, but after two years, she returned to the ice and managed to climb to the highest step of the podium.

Also competing was Kharkiv native Olga Mikutina, who represents Austria. She finished in 18th place, which was her personal season record.

The 2026 Olympics in Milan-Cortina have already brought significant awards to the USA in figure skating, and Liu's performance was one of the brightest moments of the tournament.
