The Usyk Family

Boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk and his wife Kateryna, together with their four children, continue to navigate life amid Ukraine's ongoing challenges. The couple married in 2009 in Simferopol. Following Russia's annexation of Crimea, the family relocated to the Kyiv region, where they raise their children:

  • daughter Yelyzaveta
  • sons Kyrylo and Mykhailo
  • youngest daughter Maria

Yelyzaveta, the eldest child, was born in February 2010. In 2025, she celebrated her 15th birthday, with performers Nadia Dorofieieva and Olena Omarhalieva attending the party. Kyrylo was born in 2013, followed by Mykhailo in 2015. The youngest, Maria, arrived in 2024. Currently, Yelyzaveta resides with her mother and younger sister in Kyiv.

Life During Wartime

Amid the full-scale war, Usyk's sons moved to Spain, where they are learning Spanish and English. Their parents visit them every six weeks. Both brothers train in judo at an academy in Marbella. Kateryna Usyk shared:

“We wanted to take them (the children - ed.). Sanya also suffered a lot because the family should be together. But how? I'm here alone. Yes, I have a nanny from 10 AM to 8 PM, but at night I'm by myself. I don't have enough resources on my own.” - Kateryna Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk is now preparing for his next fight, scheduled for May 23, 2026, in Egypt near the Pyramids of Giza. This bout against Tyson Verhoeven will mark Usyk's first appearance since his victory over Daniel Dubois in July 2025. In Ukraine, the fight will be broadcast on the Kyivstar TV platform via the Premium HD package, as well as on DAZN.

Life in Ukraine remains difficult for many families affected by the war. The Usyk family's choice to relocate abroad for their children's upbringing reflects a desire to provide them with a stable and secure environment. Oleksandr Usyk's preparation for an international bout underscores his role not only as a professional boxer but also as a symbol of national pride amid the country's hardships. Importantly, sporting events can serve as a source of positive emotion and unity for Ukrainians during these trying times.
