The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine provided detailed explanations regarding the procedure for making changes to civil status records after a child's adoption.

According to the Family Code of Ukraine, adoption is the acceptance of a person into the family by the adopter as a daughter or son, carried out based on a court decision. The procedure aims to ensure stable and harmonious living conditions for the child.

Based on the court decision on adoption, the registration bodies make the corresponding changes to the birth record and issue a new birth certificate.

According to the court decision, the following changes are made in the birth record:

  • information about the parents;

  • data about the child;

  • date and place of birth (if necessary);

  • date of state birth registration.

Information about the adoption is entered into the State Register of Civil Status Acts on the day the court decision is received by the registration body or on the day it is received.

The documents include an application for making changes and other necessary documents sent to the registration body where the birth record is stored.

In conditions of martial law, to obtain a new birth certificate, one can apply to any registration body located in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.

The Ministry of Justice recalled that court decisions that have entered into legal force are mandatory for execution by all state authorities, local government, their officials, as well as physical and legal persons throughout the territory of Ukraine.
