A Golden Ring for Donald Trump
Jewelers from Antwerp created a gold ring for U.S. President Donald Trump, set with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies. The gift, named Freedom 250, commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence. Antwerp-based jeweler David Gotlieb designed the piece. It was presented to Trump through U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Bill White at the America 250 event in Brussels.
In a pre-recorded video message, Trump thanked the donors. The ring features:
- two letter T's,
- the striped U.S. flag,
- the years 1776 and 2026,
- the numbers 45 and 47 styled after the Superman logo.
A diamond eagle holds a ruby shield and an olive branch made of emeralds. The engraving '250 YEARS USA' appears on the 18-karat gold surface, while inside the band, the phrase 'Crafted in Antwerp for Donald John Trump' is inscribed. Isidor Miersel, president of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), presented the gift, stating:
This partnership, like the finest diamonds, is forged under pressure. — Isidor Miersel
The Ring's Fate and Estimated Value
The ring's ultimate destination remains uncertain, as a White House representative said it has not yet been handed over to Trump. In September 2025, AWDC announced the removal of U.S. tariffs on the annual export of Antwerp's polished diamonds to America, valued at over $2 billion. AWDC also advised the European Commission during tariff negotiations. In fall 2025, a Swiss delegation prepared a personalized gold bar and a Rolex table clock for Trump, helping reduce tariffs from 39% to 15%.
The official cost of the ring has not been disclosed. However, Paris- and London-based jewelry consultant Alexander Levinson estimated its value at $25,928, while Canadian jeweler David Saad placed it between $33,000 and $35,000. For context, a gift from Qatar—a Boeing 747-8 for Trump—has been valued at $400 million.
Trump's 2025 financial disclosure includes a sculpture worth $250,000 depicting his gesture after the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. It also lists tickets to 10 sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, provided by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, valued at $15,000. The Brussels event organizer, Ambassador Bill White, raised over $5.5 million from corporate sponsors including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Intel, Google, Meta, Leonidas, and Ferrero. AWDC also contributed to the event's funding.
A gift from King Charles III during Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025 consisted of a leather-bound book dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
This ring symbolizes not only personal attention to the U.S. president but also marks significant historical milestones, such as America's 250th independence anniversary. Given the economic ties between the U.S. and Belgium, presenting such a notable gift could help strengthen business relations and cultural exchange. Moreover, the diamond tariff situation underscores the importance of international trade and its impact on both nations' economies.
As the celebration of American independence continues, the significance of such gifts becomes even more apparent.
