The new section of the European railway Uzhhorod – Chop was opened at the Uzhhorod railway station. This was reported by
“Hlavkom”referencing the Office of the President.
Thanks to the new railway, which is part of the European network, Uzhhorod has become the first regional center to be connected to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest, and Vienna. Trains on the new railway will depart for Europe on September 12.
The president heard reports from the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kubel about the implementation of the flagship project for the development of the European railway in our country. According to them, the length of this railway is 22 km. They also noted that the Ukrainian railway system uses a 'broad' gauge of 1520 mm, while the European standard is 1435 mm. It is known that the European Union plans to launch high-speed railway connections from Berlin to Kyiv by 2040.
The opening of the European railway at the Uzhhorod railway station is an important step in strengthening ties between Ukraine and European countries, which will contribute to the further development of transport infrastructure and increased international passenger and freight transport exchange.
