Uzhhorod to Build New 100-Bed Rehabilitation Center for Veterans

Ужгород розпочне будівництво нового центру реабілітації для ветеранів на 100 ліжок.

Modern Rehabilitation Center Planned for Uzhhorod

A new, modern rehabilitation facility named the '4.5.0 Recovery Center' is planned for Uzhhorod in the Zakarpattia region. It will serve both veterans and civilians. The project involves the reconstruction and expansion of a former maternity hospital building. With a total area exceeding 9,000 square meters, the center will provide comfortable conditions for patient recovery. This initiative is part of a national effort to address the significant need for rehabilitation services following the war.

Center Infrastructure and Services

The center will feature an inpatient department with 100 beds and 4 specialized intensive therapy units. This infrastructure will enable the facility to assist up to 500 patients monthly. Beyond medical services, the location will also host a veterans' hub and an Administrative Services Center (ASC), ensuring comprehensive support for veterans.

The '4.5.0 Recovery Center' project is being implemented with support from international institutions, including the World Bank under the HEAL Ukraine project. The estimated cost is 13.2 million euros. Funding is provided on a parity basis by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank. The Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration has allocated approximately 60 million hryvnias for the project.

A contract has been signed with a contractor, allowing construction work to begin. Rehabilitation is a critical need in Ukraine, where over 16,000 rehabilitation sessions are conducted daily by more than 12,000 specialists. Last year, over 435,000 people received free rehabilitation assistance. The Uzhhorod hub is one of 34 similar projects being implemented across the country.

“It is fundamentally important for us that rehabilitation is accessible and located close to where people live. That is why we are developing a network of facilities and implementing infrastructure projects, including the 4.5.0 Recovery Center in Uzhhorod, which will combine modern medical rehabilitation with comprehensive support for veterans.”

Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health

The creation of the '4.5.0 Recovery Center' in Uzhhorod is a significant step in developing Ukraine's rehabilitation system. It reflects the growing demand for such services, especially for veterans and civilians affected by the conflict. The project underscores the efforts of the government and international partners to ensure access to quality medical care, which is crucial for the recovery of those who have endured trauma and loss. The new center is expected to expand regional rehabilitation capacity and improve patients' quality of life.
