In Kharkiv, municipal transport has remained free for almost four years but marshrutkas are among the most expensive. At the same time, in other cities, prices vary significantly depending on the type of transport. This is reported by Slovo and Dilo.

The cheapest public transport in Ukraine: marshrutkas and metro

As of March 2026, the most expensive marshrutkas have been recorded in Kharkiv – 25–30 UAH. Despite this, the metro, trams, trolleybuses, and some buses in the city have remained free since 2022.

In Kyiv, the average fare for a marshrutka is 20 UAH, and for the metro – 8 UAH. The most expensive metro among the cities of Ukraine operates in Dnipro – 10 UAH per trip.

Cities with high marshrutka fares also include:

  • Lviv – 17–25 UAH

  • Ivano-Frankivsk – 18–20 UAH

  • Uzhhorod – 18–23 UAH

  • Dnipro – 20 UAH

  • Zaporizhzhia – 17–18 UAH

  • Cherkasy – 16–20 UAH.

Average rates are recorded in most regional centers, including Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Ternopil.

The lowest cost for a marshrutka ride is in Kherson, where a trip costs only 8 UAH.

The cost of trams and trolleybuses in Ukraine: where they pay the most

The highest rates for electric transport are recorded in Lviv – 17–25 UAH per trip. Next are Ivano-Frankivsk (15–20 UAH), as well as Zaporizhzhia and Odesa – about 15 UAH.

In a number of cities, prices are lower:

  • Ternopil – 12–15 UAH

  • Rivne and Zhytomyr – 12–14 UAH

  • Chernivtsi, Chernihiv, Cherkasy – about 13 UAH.

The most affordable electric transport is in these cities:

  • Kherson – 6 UAH

  • Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kropyvnytskyi – 8 UAH

  • Poltava – 8.5–10 UAH

  • Dnipro – 10 UAH

  • Vinnytsia – 12 UAH.

Trams and trolleybuses are absent in Uzhhorod.

The difference in fare costs between cities can be explained by local budgets, the level of subsidies, and the burden on the transport system. The number of internally displaced persons, especially in Kharkiv region, also plays a significant role.

It is noted that in Ternopil, as of March 23, 2026, the transportation cost in public transport has changed.
