The State Consumer Service calls on Ukrainians to refrain from purchasing and using glass cups from China, where dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium have been detected. This information was received from the Polish competent authority through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

"This concerns a glass cup of Chinese origin, decorated with flowers, mushrooms, and leaves. It has been established that the levels of lead and cadmium migration in the product exceed the norms, posing a dangerous risk to human health"

All Ukrainians are urged to avoid these cups and report to local consumer service authorities if they find such products on sale. Department representatives also emphasize the importance of cooperation with other countries that are members of RASFF to remove dangerous goods from circulation.

Consequences of mass lead poisoning of children in China

In July, police in the Chinese province of Gansu detained eight individuals suspected of mass lead poisoning of children in a local kindergarten. 19 children became victims of poisoning; analysis showed critically high levels of lead in their blood, exceeding 400 mcg/l.

Research has found that the children were poisoned due to negligent production and inadequate conditions in the kindergarten. This incident has raised questions about the quality and safety of children's products in China and highlighted the importance of manufacturing control and the responsibility of authorities to protect children from hazardous substances.
