Starting from January 1, 2026, pensioners in Ivano-Frankivsk will no longer be able to use free travel in public transport with a pension certificate. They will need a special "Halka" card for this. This was announced by the mayor Ruslan Martinkiv on the TRK "Vezha" broadcast, as reported by "Suspilne".

Free travel with a pension certificate is canceled in Ivano-Frankivsk

"Free travel with a pension certificate will remain valid until the end of 2025. And from January 1, 2026, in both private and public transport, only residents of our community who have a discount and a "Halka" card will be able to use it," explained Martinkiv.

At the same time, this innovation will not apply to people with state benefits. In addition, pensioners from neighboring communities - Yamnytska and Ugrynivska - will be able to travel for free. The mayor clarified that the changes are aimed at organizing the accounting of preferential transport and reducing the burden on the city budget.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, free travel in transport will be with the "Halka" card

The "Halka" card is an electronic ticket that allows residents of Frankivsk to use public transport without payment if they belong to preferential categories. It can be obtained at special centers or through the official program website.

Those entitled to receive the "Halka" card include:

  • pensioners;

  • combatants;

  • people with disabilities;

  • family members of deceased or missing servicemen;

  • liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster and their families;

  • employees of communal enterprises.

The initiative is part of the strategy to transition to a fully electronic payment system for travel in Ivano-Frankivsk. The city council believes this will help better control benefits, reduce abuses, and increase transparency in payments to carriers.

Earlier we reported that in Lviv a 30-day subscription for all public transport was launched for passengers in the LeoCard mobile application. It can be purchased without visiting cash desks or terminals.
