The UN Refugee Agency has recorded an increase in the number of people evacuating or relocating from the frontline territories of Ukraine. This was stated by UNHCR representative in Ukraine Carolina Lindholm Billing in an interview with Ukrinform.

Statistics and Dynamics of Movements

According to the agency, approximately 3.7 million individuals remain internally displaced in Ukraine, and about 5.6 million Ukrainians have refugee status. Since mid-2024, there has been an increase in the number of people evacuated or relocated from frontline areas. Movements have become particularly intense since the beginning of this year. Since the beginning of 2025, 190 thousand Ukrainians have become displaced persons from the frontline regions of Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy.

Vulnerable Population

UNHCR emphasized that among the evacuated, there is a predominance of the most vulnerable groups of the population, such as elderly people, those with limited mobility or disabilities, as well as materially disadvantaged individuals. These categories of the population often remain in danger due to a lack of ability to quickly evacuate.

According to the UN, the increase in the number of evacuees and displaced persons from the frontline territories of Ukraine is a troubling phenomenon, as it indicates a deepening humanitarian crisis in the region and an escalation of the conflict.
