Solidarity Run Unites Ottawa in Support of Ukraine
In Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, the Solidarity Run was held to raise funds for Ukrainian military medics, successfully gathering more than 14,000 CAD in donations. The original fundraising target was 6,993 CAD—symbolizing the length of Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders—but this goal was more than doubled by generous contributors.
The event and its associated initiatives brought in 7,701 CAD (about 5,580 USD). The Toronto-based running club, "Ranok," contributed 1,500 CAD (approximately 1,087 USD), while the Latvian Relief Society of Canada donated 6,993 CAD (around 5,064 USD). All funds collected are channeled through the World Congress of Ukrainians’ programs, Unite With Ukraine and Fight Like a Ukrainian.
Community Engagement and Support
This charitable event attracted participation from members of the Ukrainian and Latvian communities, dedicated volunteers, and supportive Canadians. Key organizations involved included:

Additionally, both the Latvian and Ukrainian embassies in Canada offered their support. The World Congress of Ukrainians spearheaded the event, while the Ukrainian Catholic Church generously hosted the venue.
Volunteers and teams from Ottawa’s Ukrainian and Latvian communities played an active role in organizing the run. As the event organizers emphasized,
“this run highlighted a simple yet vital truth: when we move forward together, no step is too small.”
The Solidarity Run served as a powerful platform to back Ukrainian military medics and demonstrated the strong unity between Ukrainian and Latvian communities in Canada. A significant aspect of this initiative is the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the World Congress of Ukrainians, aimed at supporting Ukraine’s European integration and accelerating its EU membership process.
