Russia is retreating into a demographic belly, as the latest figures do not speak of a great nation, but rather of a country on the edge. It is known that starting from July this year, Russian authorities stopped publishing demographic data - population counts, birth rates, mortality rates and other figures have become a secret.
In 2024, only 1.222 million newborns were registered in the RF - the worst figure in the last 25 years. And in the first months of 2025, the number of children born in the country fell even further - only 293-294 thousand. This is less than in the same period of 2024. Even the mortality rate exceeds the birth rate, and the natural decline in the population continues: in 2024, there were losses of 596.2 thousand people, which is 20.4% more than a year earlier.
Among the main reasons for the demographic crisis: emigration, increased mortality, and decreased birth rates. Moreover, the demographic statistics of the RF do not capture the losses in the war against Ukraine. The Russian authorities are losing tens of thousands of citizens with demographic potential.
And this date, by the way, can no longer be analyzed in military office tables. This loss of demographic resources due to the war against Ukraine adds the most fury to the Kremlin’s propagandists, but according to official data - it’s two stories that are now heading towards the apogee of the crisis.
