Electricity Situation in Ukraine
On April 25, 2026, Ukraine is not expected to impose any electricity consumption restrictions, according to an announcement from the national grid operator Ukrenergo. Despite this, the company urged citizens to limit the use of high-power electrical appliances during the evening hours, specifically from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Preparations for the Winter Season
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided updates on preparations for the upcoming winter and the restoration of energy infrastructure following Russian strikes. He stated that resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country. Key aspects of these plans include:
- repairing roads damaged during the winter;
- ensuring the protection of critical infrastructure facilities.
“Every facility that matters must be protected,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal also announced the construction of a new energy system. On April 2, a meeting was held to review the implementation status of resilience plans for regions and cities, which had been approved at the National Security and Defense Council level. The Cabinet of Ministers allocated 12.85 billion hryvnias for these plans, which will fund 209 facilities in frontline regions and the Kyiv region.
According to estimates, Ukraine's total energy recovery needs over the next 10 years amount to $90.6 billion. This figure is 34% higher than the previous estimate, reflecting the growing demands on the country's energy infrastructure.
These statements from the president and the energy minister highlight the critical importance of winter preparedness amid the challenges of war. Given the extensive damage to the country's energy infrastructure, the government is focusing on its restoration and protection, which is vital for ensuring stable energy supplies. The high level of required investment underscores that rebuilding the energy sector will remain a priority for Ukraine in the coming years.
As the government continues to prioritize energy resilience, it is essential to recognize the ongoing efforts in winter preparations. Similar to the recent allocation of funds in March, the current measures underscore the urgency of addressing the energy infrastructure's vulnerabilities.
