Foreign Companies Operating in Ukraine

According to financial reports for 2025, there are 2,997 major companies in Ukraine with foreign ownership, each generating annual revenues exceeding 100 million UAH. This substantial presence underscores a significant level of international investor interest in the Ukrainian market. The majority of these foreign-owned entities have their ultimate owners based in Cyprus, Germany, and the United States. This investment comes despite the ongoing challenges in the region, highlighting areas of economic resilience.

An analysis by OpenDatabot reveals that a single company can have multiple foreign co-owners. Geographically, the capital city of Kyiv hosts the largest concentration, with 1,478 such companies registered. The Lviv and Kyiv regions follow, each with 223 registered businesses. In contrast, the Kherson and Donetsk regions have the fewest businesses with foreign capital, a reflection of the severe impact of the war in those areas.

Sector Breakdown of These Companies

Wholesale trade is the most common activity, with 774 companies, followed by the agricultural sector with 268 firms, and the IT sphere with 176 companies. The aggregate revenue of the retail companies ranked among Ukraine's top enterprises for 2026 reached 647.33 billion UAH. The leader of this 2026 ranking of Ukraine's best enterprises is the ATB-Market retail chain.

The growing number of foreign companies signals a positive trend for the national economy, suggesting a recovering confidence among international investors. The strong presence in key sectors like wholesale trade and agriculture points to significant potential for further development and additional investment. For this momentum to continue, it is crucial for Ukrainian authorities to maintain and enhance a favorable business climate to retain and strengthen this foreign interest.
