Prices for strawberries from local farms have started to drop rapidly in Ukraine. The reason is a sharp increase in the supply of berries from western and southern regions, while demand remains restrained. As a result, farmers are forced to lower prices for perishable products. This is reported by analysts from EastFruit.
Why strawberries have started to drop in price in Ukraine
Only at the end of last week, greenhouse strawberries were sold for 200–260 UAH per kilogram.
However, at the beginning of this week, after the start of the active harvest of berries in film greenhouses, wholesale prices fell by 14% immediately.
Now producers are selling strawberries for 170–230 UAH per kilogram.
Analysts explain that the number of berries from the western regions of Ukraine has significantly increased in the market, which has sharply intensified competition among producers.
What will happen to strawberry prices next
Experts note that the mass collection of strawberries in Ukraine has not yet fully begun.
It is expected that the peak supply of berries will occur at the beginning of next month, so prices may continue to decrease.
At the same time, even after the price drop, strawberries in Ukraine are currently on average 32% more expensive than during the same period last year.
Specialists also link high prices to weather conditions and the increase in production costs for growers.
Just a week ago, the price of strawberries in the capital ranged from 280 to 320 UAH per kilogram.
