The Ukrainian government has made a decision to distribute air alerts based on the level of danger due to the change in the tactics of Russian attacks. A yellow alert is anticipated in the case of a drone attack and a red alert for an increased threat of missile or combined strikes. This was reported by Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky.
The changes will affect the operation of businesses, public transport, curfew hours, and shelters. Additionally, the government plans to create a state mobile application to provide information about air threats.
How the yellow and red alert levels will operate in September 2026
A yellow alert level will be declared during a drone attack. During this time, businesses will be able to continue working under the condition of adhering to safety regulations and ensuring access to shelters for employees and visitors.
For facilities that currently lack such access, the government is providing a three-month period to resolve the issue.
«The economy needs to function, taxes need to be collected, and people need to receive salaries. That's why, during a yellow alert, businesses will be able to continue operating under strict compliance with safety requirements,» noted Koretsky.
A red alert will be in effect in case of an increased threat of missile or combined strikes. It will entail a suspension of work and mandatory relocation of people to shelters.
A mobile application will be created in Ukraine to track missiles and drones
Another element of the new system will be a state mobile application for air threats based on the Diia service. It aims to consolidate official information about alerts and current dangers into a single informational field. This was stated by Ukrainian Pravda.
According to the government's plan, users will receive information directly from the official source. The service will inform not only about air alerts but also about the movement of strike drones, missiles, and other threats.
«Based on Diia, a state application about air alerts, dangers, and the movement of "Shaheds", drones, and missiles will be created so that there is a unified information space about current threats and overall information from the primary source, the government,» shared Koretsky.
The launch dates for the new application have not been announced yet.
How the metro and curfew will change in 2026
The government recommended ensuring the full operation of the Kyiv metro during the yellow alert level. If necessary, the city should increase the number of surface transport options.
Improvements to the curfew application are also planned. In Kyiv, changes will relate to transit freight transport and transporting passengers to and from train stations.
Local authorities are recommended to adjust the duration of the curfew and set it from 01:00 to 05:00. Additionally, the government demands the acceleration of the installation of additional mobile shelters in communities.
