National Dialogue: 'Memory Routes in Ukraine'
On June 16, the city of Irpin hosted the National Dialogue titled 'Memory Routes in Ukraine: Shaping Through Communication.' This event was organized by Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities and Territories Development and the State Agency for Tourism Development, with support from the Partnership for a Strong Ukraine project. During the gathering, a public investment program called 'Routes of Memory Sites' was unveiled. Its goal is to back memorialization projects that could receive state budget funding. To qualify, these projects must be submitted through the DREAM platform.
A key outcome of the event was the debut of the 'Memory Sites' website, which now features over 140 objects and locations spanning all regions of Ukraine. Attendees also got a first look at the country’s inaugural audio guide dedicated to memorial sites, connecting locations from Kyiv to Borodianka. The Ukrainian-language version was narrated by actress Rymma Zyubina, while the English version was voiced by musician, soldier, and volunteer Taras Topolia. The audio guide project was carried out by the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine, with backing from RoadDream and ULIS.
The Role of Digital Solutions
Natalia Tabaka, head of the State Agency for Tourism Development, emphasized that with limited resources for large-scale reconstruction and new construction, the focus must shift toward digital solutions and reaching broader audiences. She added:
“In cooperation with PFRU, we are preparing training programs for guides and educators who train personnel in the tourism sector. The aim is to teach as many people as possible how to professionally and ethically communicate Ukraine’s experience of war to the world.”
