The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new rules for transporting pets in intercity and international bus services. Changes have been made to the Cabinet's Resolution No. 176. According to Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Sergey Derkach, these new rules are aimed at increasing passenger comfort and ensuring compliance with laws on humane treatment of animals.
Sergey Derkach noted that the previous norms were not sufficiently clear, so the new rules will simplify the situation for passengers, drivers, and carriers. It is also important to adapt Ukrainian norms to European standards. The new requirements establish clear rules for transporting animals of various sizes and weights, and the presence of a veterinary document is mandatory. Large dogs are transported in a muzzle and on a leash, while guide dogs are transported free of charge under special conditions. No more than one or two animals may be carried in the cabin if they are accompanied by one person.
Currently, the draft law No. 9016 is under consideration in the Verkhovna Rada, which may also change the rules for transporting animals in cars.
