After 15 Years Apart, Vakarchuk Reunites with His University Classmates

Відзначаючи незабутні моменти, Вакарчук зустрічається зі своїми однокурсниками після довгої розлуки.

A Long-Awaited Reunion for Sviatoslav Vakarchuk and His Former Classmates

Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, the iconic frontman of the band Okean Elzy, recently gathered with former classmates from Lviv National University, where he graduated in 1996. The reunion marked a significant milestone for many alumni, as Vakarchuk had not seen some of them for 15 years. In a social media post, he shared photos from the event alongside archival images, stirring memories of years gone by.

Discussing Matters of Consequence

Vakarchuk noted that many of his former classmates have moved abroad. Among them are those who now work as teachers and professors at Western universities in the United States, Canada, Germany, and Poland. Other alumni are employed in schools, physics and mathematics lyceums, as well as in business and IT sectors.

“I hadn’t seen some of the guys and girls for 15 years. Some I hadn’t seen since graduation. Others I see quite often.” – Sviatoslav Vakarchuk

During the gathering, Vakarchuk and his classmates toured familiar spots around the university campus and sat at desks in lecture halls, recalling both humorous and poignant moments from the past. “We walked through all the familiar places, sat at desks in the classrooms. We remembered funny moments. And touching ones too,” he said.

A key topic of conversation was the fact that some alumni are currently serving on the front lines, defending the country. “Some are at the front… There are those whose children are also serving,” Vakarchuk added. Yet despite the challenges and the weariness felt across society, the graduates radiated optimism for the future. Vakarchuk emphasized that “the most heartening thing was that, despite the exhaustion—both physical and moral—everyone exuded hope that everything will be fine.”

This reunion served not only as an opportunity for reminiscence but also as a reaffirmation of the importance of education and the bonds that unite alumni. “I felt all of this inside. And I saw it in my friends’ eyes. An incredible day. Thank you all! See you as soon as possible!” Vakarchuk concluded. Notably, during the event, he also extended birthday greetings to Ukrainian writer and poet Lina Kostenko.

Vakarchuk’s reunion with his former classmates underscores the importance of support and connection among people who have shared formative educational and life experiences. Despite distances and hardships, such gatherings help sustain morale and hope for a better future among those currently enduring difficult times, particularly amid the war in Ukraine. This reflects the resilience and solidarity that remain vital for society in the face of challenges.

In a similar vein, Sviatoslav Vakarchuk recently reunited with his college classmates after three decades, sharing nostalgic moments and vintage photos that highlight the enduring bonds formed during their formative years. This gathering not only celebrated their past but also underscored the lasting impact of their education and friendships, much like the recent reunion at Lviv National University.
