Ruling by the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court

The Appeals Chamber of Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court has upheld a decision to seize an unjustified asset from a senior police official for the state. The asset in question is a half-share of an apartment in the capital, which the head of a department within the National Police's Drug Enforcement Directorate acquired jointly with his wife in 2021. This ruling is part of Ukraine's ongoing judicial efforts to hold public officials accountable for illicit enrichment.

The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) determined that the couple lacked sufficient legal income to justify the purchase of this property, valued at over 1.8 million Ukrainian hryvnias. On March 6, 2025, the court partially granted a lawsuit filed by a prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, based on evidence gathered by the NACP. The court recognized the asset as unjustified and ordered its value to be recovered for the state.

Significance of the Ruling

This decision marks a significant step in Ukraine's anti-corruption drive, demonstrating the judiciary's commitment to holding public servants accountable for unexplained wealth. It also underscores the critical role of the NACP in detecting and investigating corruption cases, which is vital for strengthening public trust in state institutions during a period of national reform.
