Ukrainians should prepare for an increase in the cost of gasoline, diesel, and autogas – starting January 1, 2026, an increase in excise duties on basic types of fuel will come into effect. This will be a key factor in its rising costs in the coming years. This is reported by Sudovoyuridichna Gazeta.
The National Bank notes that the market will remain relatively stable until the end of 2025, and sharp fluctuations at gas stations are not expected. At the same time, the new tax rules will increase financial pressure on operators and consumers. “The planned increase in excise burdens on fuel will lead to accelerated price growth in the coming years,” the NBU emphasizes.
What excises will take effect from 2026
According to current legislation, excise rates will rise for all types of fuel:
-
gasoline: from 271.7 to 300.8 euros per 1,000 liters;
-
diesel: from 215.7 to 253.8 euros per 1,000 liters;
-
autogas: from 173 to 198 euros per 1,000 liters.
The NBU predicts that this increase will affect both wholesale and retail segments. The cost of fuel will begin to gradually rise immediately after the new rates are introduced, and the effect will last for several years.
Fuel prices: how this will affect drivers in the short and long term
No sharp price hikes are expected in 2024-2025. However, in 2026, prices at gas stations may increase:
-
gasoline – by 1.5-2.5 UAH/l;
-
diesel – by 2-3 UAH/l;
-
autogas – by 1-1.8 UAH/l.
In the long term, the increase in excise duties will remain one of the main factors driving price growth, affecting the market for several consecutive years.
Earlier, we wrote that from 2026 import of electric cars will also become more expensive.
