In Poltava, from November 17, public transport will operate at existing rates, as the city and transporters managed to agree not to raise the cost of travel. This was reported by the press service of the city council.
Why travel in Poltava remains unchanged
The increase in travel costs was approved back in 2022 by the previous members of the executive committee; however, the current authorities claim they are trying to curb price increases to avoid burdening residents with additional expenses. Transporters agreed to temporarily operate at current rates, although they emphasize the need for new economic justification and a possible review of tariffs in the future.
The city council noted that the situation is complicated on both sides: the city understands the difficulties of transporters but receives many complaints about the quality of services. Therefore, the parties agreed to conduct joint consultations and review financial calculations to find a balanced solution.
Kateryna Yamshykova, the secretary of the city council, confirmed the authorities' position:
"The decision to increase tariffs was made by the previous composition of the executive committee back in 2022. Since then, we have done everything possible to maintain the previous cost of travel. We are grateful to transporters for their willingness to meet the community and not raise the tariff. We understand that working at current rates is becoming increasingly difficult. At the same time, we cannot ignore passenger complaints about the quality of transportation."
