State Assistance Available to Widowers Raising Children in Ukraine
In Ukraine, a widower who is solely responsible for raising his children can qualify for government aid typically reserved for single mothers. This support is accessible provided he does not receive other child-related social benefits. Remarkably, the entitlement remains valid even if he remarries, as long as his new spouse has not legally adopted the children.
According to Article 18-1 of the Law "On State Assistance to Families with Children," a father can be granted this aid if the mother has passed away. A key requirement is that the father must not be receiving survivor's pension, social pension, or state social assistance for the deceased breadwinner’s child at the time of application. The state social assistance for children of deceased providers is regulated under the Law "On State Social Assistance for Individuals Not Entitled to Pension and Persons with Disabilities."
The Pension Fund of Ukraine clarified: "If a man receiving this aid remarries, the benefit continues provided the new wife has not adopted the children."
