Mykolaiv region and Kryvyi Rih: the evening attack

In the Mykolaiv region, the attack claimed four lives, including three children: two 11-year-olds and one 12-year-old. The flames also engulfed a store, a pharmacy, and a post office, hindering rescue attempts. These casualties came as Russian forces carried out evening strikes on both the Mykolaiv region and Kryvyi Rih.

In Kryvyi Rih, one of the city's largest shopping and entertainment complexes was hit. So far, 14 people have been confirmed dead and more than 100 wounded, including 11 children. Some victims are in serious condition. Fire has engulfed a third of the mall's space. Rescue operations continue, but firefighters face the constant risk of a new attack, since the Russians struck a second time after the initial strike.

Psychologists from the police and the State Emergency Service are at the scene helping victims and their relatives. The incident has caused widespread shock and underscores the enduring danger that Ukrainians face every day of the war.

The humanitarian fallout in Ukraine

These strikes are the latest reminder of the devastating humanitarian situation across Ukraine, where civilian casualties have become a tragic norm. With no safe space in daily life and the ever-present threat of another assault, the psychological and physical toll on people—especially children—is enormous. The rapid work of social services and psychologists offers vital support in this difficult time, but the long war and its consequences will require a comprehensive effort of recovery and rehabilitation.

The tragic events in Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih follow a similar pattern of devastation seen in recent strikes across Ukraine. Just days earlier, another night attack resulted in the loss of eight lives, including three children. Such incidents highlight the ongoing threat to civilian safety and the urgent need for comprehensive humanitarian support. For more details on this previous attack and its impact, see this report.
