Ukraine Announces Easter Ceasefire, Vows to Mirror Any Russian Violations

В Україні оголосили про перемир'я на Великдень, обіцяючи реагувати на будь-які порушення з боку Росії.

Easter Ceasefire Between Ukraine and the Russian Federation

A temporary Easter ceasefire between Ukraine and the Russian Federation has been declared, set to begin at 16:00 on April 11 and last until the end of the day on April 12. This decision was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement from the Kremlin. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed its readiness to observe the ceasefire, while simultaneously emphasizing a principle of mirror response to any potential violations.

Rules for Observing the Ceasefire

According to the rules outlined by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian military personnel must ensure the ceasefire is observed on:

  • land;
  • sea;
  • and in the air.

In the event of missile launches or strikes by attack drones from the Russian army, Ukrainian forces will have the right to deliver a mirror response. The General Staff noted that, on the instructions of the President of Ukraine—the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces—tasks have been defined for the Defense Forces of Ukraine to ensure a regime of silence during the Easter celebrations.

Furthermore, under the terms of the truce, Ukrainian military personnel will have the right to open fire if they detect certain actions by the enemy. These include:

  • the advancement of units;
  • engineering work;
  • regrouping of forces;
  • or signs of tangible preparation for assault operations.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed that the same rules will apply at sea and in the air, demonstrating the readiness of Ukrainian troops to respond to potential threats during the holiday period.

In the context of active hostilities, such temporary ceasefires are often used for humanitarian purposes or to allow military forces to consolidate their positions. Monitoring compliance with this regime will remain critically important for ensuring the safety of the civilian population and stability in the region. Such pauses are rare in this conflict and are closely watched by the international community.

As the Easter ceasefire unfolds, President Zelenskyy has articulated Ukraine's position on the conditions surrounding this truce. The emphasis on a reciprocal response to any violations highlights the delicate balance Ukraine seeks to maintain during this period.
