Appointment of the new Minister of Defense
The Verkhovna Rada appointed Mykhailo Fedorov as the new Minister of Defense, replacing Denys Shmyhal. This decision was made during a vote in which 277 lawmakers participated.
Mykhailo Fedorov, who leads the office, emphasized the importance of the Defense Forces and technological superiority over the enemy, stating that
“the main guarantee of the state's security remains the Defense Forces and technological superiority over the enemy”(Mykhailo Fedorov).
In his new role, he also stressed the need to use data to build an effective defense system, asserting that
“the entire defense system should be based on data”(Mykhailo Fedorov).
The importance of quality training
Moreover, Fedorov pointed out the importance of quality training, which, in his opinion, 'directly reduces losses'. It is worth noting that 50 units out of 400 account for 70% of enemy casualties, highlighting their role in military operations. The appointment of a new Minister of Defense took place in a context where the security of the country remains on the agenda.
The appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense is an important step for Ukraine amid ongoing military aggression. The focus on technological superiority and data may indicate an intention to modernize the country’s defense strategies. This decision also underlines the necessity to adapt to new challenges in security, which is critically important in the context of the current situation in the region.
