Ukraine's Parliament Approves Critical Infrastructure Worker Compensation: Eligibility Details

Парламент України ухвалив новий закон щодо компенсацій для працівників критичної інфраструктури: основні умови отримання.

Financial Support for Critical Infrastructure Personnel

Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has passed Law No. 14303 to provide monetary aid to workers at critical infrastructure facilities impacted by Russia's full-scale invasion. The legislation broadens eligibility for payments and establishes a mechanism for disbursement, receiving 293 votes in favor from deputies. This move addresses the severe hardships faced by those maintaining essential services during the ongoing war.

Compensation Eligibility

Under the new law, financial assistance will be granted to workers in the energy sector and other critical infrastructure, as well as to their families. The right to compensation is also extended to:

  • Employees of critical infrastructure operators;
  • Branches and representative offices of these operators;
  • Family members of deceased individuals who qualify for compensation.

It is noteworthy that the international Register of Damage for Ukraine has already received 100,000 claims from individuals. Starting January 16, families who have lost loved ones due to the invasion can submit claims to the Register under category A2.1, providing an additional avenue for financial support for war victims. This legislative action is a significant step in supporting critical infrastructure workers who have suffered substantial losses, offering not just financial relief but also underscoring the state's commitment to the safety and welfare of those in vital national sectors. Given the rising number of claims to the international damage register, this law could become a key component in the recovery process and social support for affected families.
