The Verkhovna Rada launched the European integration of railways: what will change for passengers

Верховна Рада ініціювала зміни у залізничному сполученні: які нововведення чекають на мандрівників.

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has supported the draft law on the safety of railway transport in Ukraine. This is an important event aimed at integrating the Ukrainian railway into the European transport space.

According to the draft law, a new safety management system will be introduced in railway transport, in accordance with European standards. Risk assessment, a new rolling stock maintenance system, and accountability for its technical condition are also provided.

“We are consistently aligning the rules of railway transport operations with EU standards, focusing on safety, compatibility, and predictability of the system.”

European standards for drivers, training, and continuing education will also be introduced, as well as ensuring compatibility with EU infrastructure.

The adoption of the law will help increase the safety of transportation, expand international routes, and collaborate with European operators. These changes will come into effect three years after final adoption, allowing the industry to adapt to new standards while maintaining stability.

The adoption of the draft law also marks fruitful cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union and the possibility of obtaining funding from the EU and the World Bank.
