The Verkhovna Rada dismissed Fedorov and Shmyhal

On January 13, 2026, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a number of important personnel decisions, dismissing Mykhailo Fedorov from the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Denys Shmyhal from the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. It is worth noting that new appointments for these positions have not been announced.

As part of the personnel changes, 235 members of parliament voted to dismiss Vasyl Maliuk from the position of head of the Security Service of Ukraine. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Yaroslav Merezhko as the Deputy Head of the SBU.

Attack on the thermal power plant and events in Ukraine

In addition to personnel decisions, on January 13, there was an attack by the Russian Federation on the DTEK thermal power plant, which resulted in damage to energy equipment. Against the backdrop of these events, singer Khayat became the tenth finalist of the National Selection for Eurovision-2026, receiving 91,758 votes, which accounts for 32.41% of the total votes.

It is also worth noting that on January 15, 2026, the issue of Russian strikes will be considered at the OSCE at Ukraine's request. These events underscore the complex political and security situation in the country.

Personnel changes in the government of Ukraine, particularly the dismissal of key officials, may indicate a need for renewal or revision of management strategies amid ongoing military aggression from Russia. The attack on the country's energy infrastructure highlights the relevance of national security and energy stability issues. Upcoming decisions made at the international level, especially at the OSCE, may influence the further development of the situation in Ukraine.
