The employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, established that the head of the migration control department of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region purchased a Mercedes-Benz G400 D worth 5.65 million UAH in 2023 for his mother. The Supreme Court of Ukraine confirmed the legality of the decisions of the previous courts regarding the confiscation of the car. This was reported by 'Gromadske' citing the SBI.
According to the investigation, the head and close associates actually used the car, although it was purchased under the guise of being for his mother. Even the official incomes of the official and his mother did not allow such an expense, which indicates his abuse of power.
He is also accused of extorting $20,000 from a foreigner for assistance with migration issues. As a result of searches of officials and their relatives, funds, jewelry, and other property worth at least 140 million UAH, exceeding their incomes, were found. Among other things, a Mercedes was seized, as well as a house owned by the director's mother, and other assets.
The conducted investigation and confiscation of property of the head of the migration control department in Odessa region indicates unacceptable behavior of officials in the fight against corruption, going beyond the law and abusing power. The court's decision on the confiscation of property confirms the government's intentions to punish corrupt officials and restore legality in the country.
