According to reports, over 8,710 Russian troops were killed or seriously wounded in a single week. General Valery Gerasimov stated that Russian forces managed to seize 12 Ukrainian settlements in the first two weeks of March. However, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes that the rate of Russian losses during this offensive is unsustainable, suggesting the campaign's momentum may be faltering.

“As long as they advance, we will kill them. We see that the peace process has reached a dead end. Russia is demanding what we cannot give up—our land.”
Military medic Vadym emphasized the sense of impasse, noting that 'there is a feeling we are at a dead end, and no one wants to back down, neither from territory nor from ambitions.' He likened the current situation to focusing all medical resources on a single critical patient while losing sight of the broader crisis.
International politics further complicates the situation. The conflict between the U.S. and Iran has disrupted trilateral talks involving the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia, potentially affecting weapons supplies to Kyiv. This comes as Western support faces increasing political scrutiny. People's Deputy Sviatoslav Yurash expressed deep concern, remarking:
“I cannot focus on optimism when I understand that Putin continues to speak of his desires and dreams to seize all of Ukraine.”
