Ukraine's Diia App Now Offers Free Auto Insurance for Veterans and War-Disabled

В Україні запроваджено безкоштовний страховий поліс для захисників та ветеранів війни через застосунок Дія.

New Feature Reimburses Mandatory Auto Insurance Costs

A new feature within the Diia app's Veteran PRO section now provides full reimbursement for mandatory third-party auto insurance (MTPL) to veterans and individuals disabled due to the war. This initiative ensures the policy is completely free: half the cost is covered by the state, and the other half by the insurance company. To qualify for this compensation, applicants must meet specific criteria related to their status, the policy's issue date, and their vehicle's technical specifications.

The feature is a collaborative effort by Ukraine's Ministry for Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau. Officials from the Diia service state that the policy becomes entirely free of charge, with the reimbursement process designed to be as simple and fast as possible. They emphasize the initiative's transparency, speed, and elimination of bureaucratic paperwork.

Eligibility Requirements for Compensation

To receive the payment, several criteria must be met. Specifically, applicants must:

  • have an electronic veteran or war-disabled person's certificate in the Diia app;
  • purchase the MTPL policy after January 1, 2025, using the applicable benefit;
  • own a car with an engine capacity not exceeding 2500 cubic centimeters;
  • for electric vehicles, the power output must be under 100 kW;
  • use the vehicle for personal needs only.

This program is part of a broader digital transformation in Ukraine, where the Diia app has become a central hub for government services. To obtain the compensation, users need to update the Diia app, navigate to the Services section, select Veteran PRO, click on "Auto Insurance Compensation," confirm their policy, and choose a card for the refund. This new initiative offers veterans and war-disabled individuals significant savings on mandatory car insurance and simplifies access to essential services.

The auto insurance compensation initiative represents a significant step in supporting veterans and individuals disabled as a result of the war.

It not only alleviates the financial burden on this group of citizens but also streamlines the procedure for obtaining insurance services, which can positively impact their quality of life. The involvement of both the state and insurance companies underscores the importance of cross-sector cooperation in enhancing the social protection of veterans.

In addition to the newly introduced auto insurance reimbursement, veterans in Kyiv can now access a dedicated transportation service designed specifically for individuals with disabilities. This initiative further enhances the support available to veterans, showcasing the government's commitment to improving their quality of life through various services and benefits.
