Tragedy Strikes in Bohodukhiv
A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck a private home in the city of Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv region, on the night of February 11, killing 34-year-old war veteran Hryhorii Shykula and his three children. His wife, Olha Kryvohub, who is 35 weeks pregnant, survived but sustained serious injuries. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on civilian areas far from the front lines.
Hryhorii Shykula had been demobilized after being wounded two years ago, when he had voluntarily joined the military. He stepped on a mine after four months of service, resulting in the amputation of his leg. Following this, he underwent rehabilitation and learned to walk with a prosthetic. Hryhorii and Olha had married shortly before the tragedy and moved into a new house.
Children Lost and Aftermath
The UAV strike killed the couple's three children: two-year-old twin sons, Ivan and Vladyslav, and their one-year-old daughter, Myroslava. Olha Kryvohub, who survived with blast injuries, a traumatic brain injury, acoustic trauma, and thermal burns, has been discharged from the hospital.
A three-day period of mourning has been declared in Bohodukhiv. According to reports, Russian strikes on Bohodukhiv on February 9 and 11 killed six people, including four children. This horrific event is yet another testament to the ongoing war's toll on civilian lives.
