One-Time Cash Payment for Ukraine’s Independence Day in 2026

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved a resolution introducing a one-time cash payment for the country’s Independence Day in 2026. This financial support targets war veterans, former concentration camp prisoners, and families of fallen Ukrainian defenders. The funds will be distributed by August 24, 2026, with amounts varying depending on the recipient’s category. This initiative is part of broader government efforts to honor those who served and sacrificed for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Payment Amounts

Individuals with war-related disabilities will receive the following amounts:

  • Group I – 3,100 UAH,
  • Group II – 2,900 UAH,
  • Group III – 2,700 UAH.

Those recognized for special service to the nation will also get 3,100 UAH. Combatants (UDB) are entitled to 1,000 UAH, families of fallen soldiers will receive 650 UAH, and war participants will get 450 UAH. Payments are processed through the Pension Fund of Ukraine and relevant ministries. Veterans who are still serving or receiving pensions will have the funds automatically credited.

Separately, Ukraine’s parliament has passed the first reading of a draft law that prohibits spending military levy revenues on anything other than military salaries. Starting January 1, 2027, the military levy will be channeled into a dedicated state budget fund, generating over 200 billion UAH annually. From June 2026, frontline infantry personnel under special contracts will earn between 250,000 and 400,000 UAH. Military pay remains exempt from the military levy tax.

“From January 1, 2027, until the end of the third post-war year, the military levy will be allocated not to the general fund, but to a special fund of the state budget.”

These updates highlight the Ukrainian government’s commitment to veterans and their families, emphasizing the importance of social support during wartime. The creation of a dedicated fund for the military levy also signals the government’s intent to ensure stable defense financing, which could strengthen national security. Overall, these measures may play a key role in bolstering social and economic stability in Ukraine amid ongoing military challenges.

In addition to the upcoming payments for veterans, it is essential to note that the Defense Ministry has confirmed that funds for military personnel have already been allocated to their respective units. This timely assurance comes as part of ongoing efforts to support those serving in the armed forces. For more details on this matter, see how the Defense Ministry addressed payment concerns.
