Hearing Aid Provision Program in Ukraine
In Ukraine, there is a state program that provides veterans and servicemen the opportunity to obtain hearing aids in case of confirmed hearing impairments. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on this initiative, which is intended for individuals with medical indications for the use of such devices, even if they do not have disability status. As part of the program, more than 24,400 OTICON hearing aids manufactured in Denmark have already been purchased.
The program is addressed to both war veterans and active servicemen suffering from hearing problems. In order to ensure the acquisition of hearing aids, an action algorithm has been developed to help veterans properly prepare the necessary documents and go through all stages of obtaining the devices.
Action Algorithm for Obtaining a Hearing Aid
The algorithm for obtaining the device includes several stages:
- Consultation with a family doctor or therapist to obtain a referral to an audiologist.
- Examination by an audiologist, conducting an audiogram, and providing a medical conclusion.
- Finding a medical institution cooperating with the program.
- Gathering documents, including: passport, identification code, veteran certificate, referral, audiogram results, and the conclusion of the military medical commission or the medical and social expert commission.
- Submission of documents and conducting an individual selection and adjustment of the device.
Thus, this program provides veterans and military personnel the opportunity to improve their quality of life through the acquisition of modern hearing aids, which is an important step in supporting their health and social integration.
This initiative is an important component of the social protection system in Ukraine aimed at improving the lives of people who have served the country. Providing hearing aids can significantly enhance the social activity and interaction of veterans and servicemen in society, which is critically important for their psycho-emotional state. The program also emphasizes the state's commitment to support its military personnel, especially under conditions where many of them face the consequences of service, such as hearing problems.
