Fire Breaks Out in Lviv High-Rise Apartment Building

A fire erupted in a 16-story residential building in Lviv after a camping gas canister exploded. The incident occurred on the sixth floor when the canister, which had been left on an electric stove, detonated after the building's power supply was restored following an outage. Such portable gas canisters are commonly used for camping and outdoor cooking but pose significant risks if used improperly indoors.

Emergency responders had to cut through the apartment door to gain entry as it had been deformed by the blast. Fortunately, no one was in the apartment at the time except for a cat, which was unharmed. There were no reported injuries from the incident.

Safety Recommendations from Rescue Services

Rescue officials strongly advise that portable camping gas canisters should only be used in open, well-ventilated areas. They also recommend checking all electrical and gas appliances before leaving home to prevent similar accidents. This incident highlights the critical importance of following safety guidelines, especially in regions where power supply can be intermittent, as improper use of gas devices can lead to severe consequences. Public awareness of these risks and adherence to safety measures are essential to prevent future occurrences.
