Gas Explosion Injures One on 13th Floor of Odesa Apartment Building

Внаслідок вибуху газу на 13-му поверсі одеської багатоповерхівки постраждала одна особа.

Explosion Rocks High-Rise Apartment in Odesa

A gas explosion occurred in an apartment on January 21, injuring one person in a high-rise building in Odesa. The blast, which took place on the 13th floor of a 14-story residential building on Mykhaila Hrushevskoho Street, ignited the apartment's contents. Such incidents highlight the persistent risks associated with aging infrastructure and household gas systems in parts of Ukraine.

The victim, a man born in 1963, sustained burns over 80% of his body and was hospitalized in serious condition. Preliminary reports from emergency services suggest the likely cause was a violation of fire safety rules during the operation of gas equipment.

Emergency Services Issue Warning and Safety Reminder

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) in the Odesa region confirmed the details of the event. They noted a similar incident recently occurred in the city of Slavutych, Kyiv region, where an explosion happened in a fifth-floor apartment. In Slavutych, a passerby who heard a loud sound alerted the police.

The DSNS once again urges citizens to strictly adhere to safety rules when using gas appliances: 'Take care of yourself and your loved ones!'

This Odesa incident underscores the critical importance of following gas safety protocols, as violations can lead to severe consequences. Gas-related explosions in residential buildings pose a danger not only to those directly involved but also to neighbors and other residents. The DSNS continues to emphasize the need for vigilance, as even minor oversights can result in tragedy.
