Moscow Police Car Bombing Kills Officer and Suspect

Внаслідок вибуху автомобіля стався трагічний інцидент, який забрав життя співробітника поліції та підозрюваного.

Police Vehicle Explodes in Central Moscow

An explosion ripped through a police patrol car near Moscow's Savyolovsky railway station in the early hours of February 24. The blast, which occurred around 00:05 local time, killed one police officer and a suspect, while injuring two other officers. Preliminary reports indicate an unidentified man approached the official vehicle before an explosive device detonated.

The man suspected of triggering the explosion died at the scene. Investigators are currently pursuing two primary theories for the attack:

  • The individual directly activated an explosive device next to the vehicle.
  • An explosive may have been planted under the car, after which the suspect fled.

There are also reports suggesting the man was possibly recording video just before the blast. This incident follows a pattern of recent attacks targeting security personnel in the Russian capital.

Recent Similar Attack

This latest bombing comes just two months after another deadly explosion on Yasenevaya Street in Moscow's Orekhovo-Borisovo district on December 24. Residents reported hearing at least two blasts in that incident, followed by smoke and a fire, which resulted in the deaths of two police officers and injuries to two others. Preliminary information suggested that explosion occurred on the same street where, days earlier, a car bombing had killed Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov. These consecutive attacks highlight a concerning trend of violence against law enforcement in the city.

The series of explosions has raised significant public concern and prompted intensive investigations by law enforcement agencies. The heightened security measures and increased police presence across the capital underscore the seriousness with which authorities are treating the situation. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover all circumstances behind these attacks to prevent future incidents and ensure public safety.
