Fatal Explosion Rocks Kobleve Beach
On September 12, a devastating incident occurred in Kobleve, Mykolaiv region, when an anti-landing mine exploded in the Black Sea waters. The blast claimed the lives of a married couple and wounded two others. This tragedy unfolded in a restricted and fenced area clearly marked with warnings about mine danger. The victims were a 43-year-old man and his 42-year-old wife. Their 16-year-old daughter was among the injured and received medical treatment, alongside a 40-year-old woman who was hospitalized in critical condition.
Officials Respond and Stress Safety Measures
Georgiy Reshetilov, acting head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, addressed the tragedy, emphasizing that although residents desire access to the sea and the reopening of Kobleve's coastline, no decisions to open beaches can be made until experts confirm that it is safe to do so.

He also urged people to heed warning signs and avoid ignoring safety precautions, as doing so may lead to further deadly accidents.
It is important to note that this is not the first such incident in Kobleve. Earlier in August, an explosive device detonated, killing a 45-year-old man and injuring two women aged 47 and 63. The older woman was hospitalized with moderate injuries. These repeated explosions highlight the ongoing security risks present along the coast, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive clearance and safety measures.
The recent tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by mines and unexploded ordnance in coastal areas. Authorities continue to warn the public to exercise extreme caution and to respect all minefield warnings to protect lives. Access to beaches will only be permitted once experts provide full assurances that the area has been cleared and is safe for visitors.
