The problem with water supply in the occupied territories of Donbas is currently becoming catastrophic due to the worn-out water supply networks. Of the 100 liters of water supplied to consumers, only about 30 reaches them, with water loss levels reaching 60-80%. The main reason is defective networks, which even block access for customers.
"This has created a chronic water deficit that was felt even before the occupation, and now it has become catastrophic"
According to experts, when water is supplied for just a few hours a week, much of it goes to filling the pipes, so the actual amount that reaches consumers is minimal. Currently, residents of the Donetsk agglomeration receive only a quarter of the water they previously consumed.
Water utilities in the occupied territories of Donbas do not have the capacity to carry out timely repairs and maintain the networks in proper condition. Without control and funding, the situation worsens every day, and there is no communication with the occupiers at all.
The data clearly shows that water supply issues in the occupied territories of Donbas are becoming increasingly aggravated due to the neglected state of the water supply networks and the lack of coordination with the occupiers. The presence of only a quarter of the previously available water volume for residents poses a serious challenge that requires rapid and effective solutions.
