Meteorologist Warns of Hazards as February 13th Thaw Gives Way to Severe Weather

Метеорологи попереджають про небезпеку внаслідок зміни погоди, оскільки теплі дні 13 лютого перетворюються на суворі умови.

Weather Forecast for February 13

Meteorologist Natalia Didenko has forecast a widespread thaw across Ukraine for February 13, bringing with it a number of specific hazards. The day will be predominantly cloudy, damp, and foggy. The highest probability of rain is expected in the country's southern, eastern, and western regions. Nighttime temperatures will range from -2 to +3 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures in most areas will be between +2 and +5 degrees. In southern Ukraine, daytime highs will reach +5 to +9 degrees, and in Crimea, temperatures will climb to +10 to +15 degrees. In Kyiv, the temperature on February 13 will hover around +4 degrees throughout the day. This unseasonable warmth is a precursor to a significant weather shift.

Dangerous Weather Phenomena from February 15 to 18

An active cyclone will bring a sharp deterioration in weather conditions from February 15 to 16. This could lead to dangerous phenomena, including:

  • Falling icicles;
  • Avalanches of snow sliding from building roofs;
  • Black ice, which may be hidden under meltwater;
  • Dangerous conditions on ice, including ice drift and weakened ice holes;
  • A high risk of avalanches in mountainous areas.
Didenko emphasized: 'Therefore, dear drivers, visibility will be poor – do not rush.'

Furthermore, a brief cold snap is expected across Ukraine from February 16 to 18. Meteorologists are urging citizens to exercise caution and factor in the weather conditions when planning their activities. The rapid transition from thaw to freeze creates particularly treacherous conditions on roads and walkways.

In light of the expected weather changes, the public is advised to remain vigilant and consider the risks associated with the thaw and the subsequent conditions. This is especially important for drivers and those planning to spend time outdoors, as high humidity and frost can create dangerous situations on roads and in the mountains. Meteorologists recommend exercising caution to avoid injuries or accidents during this period.
