In Ukraine, preparations have begun for a possible restoration of airport operations and civilian flights. A special working group has been created in the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, which will focus on developing proposals for launching air traffic. This is reported by Suspilne.
The corresponding order was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksii Kubela.
Restoration of airport operations in Ukraine: what the group will focus on
The working group will act as an advisory body under the ministry. Its main task will be to prepare proposals for the ministry's leadership on the restoration of civil aviation flights.
Key areas of work include:
developing recommendations for launching civilian flights
preparing measures to protect critical aviation infrastructure
analyzing safe conditions for opening the airspace
Representatives of central authorities, local self-government, as well as enterprises and organizations related to the aviation industry may join the work.
Closure of Ukraine's airspace: what is known
Ukraine's airspace for civilian flights was closed on February 24, 2022, after the start of the large-scale invasion by Russia.
At the moment, there are no discussions about fully opening the skies. Earlier, the State Air Traffic Services of Ukraine stated that flights would resume after the end of hostilities and guarantee safety.
At the same time, the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak allowed for the possibility of launching one of the airports even before the war ends, provided there is a significant strengthening of air defense systems.
According to Minister Oleksii Kubela, Ukraine's aviation system is technically ready to restore flights by approximately 95%, but the key factor remains passenger safety.
