Ukraine's Minister of Youth and Sports on Youth Exodus Abroad
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matviy Bidny stated that he does not observe a critical outflow of Ukrainian youth abroad after the recent easing of travel restrictions for those aged 18-22. He compared the number of athletes who did not return after competitions to those killed on the front, noting that due to the war, this figure is higher.
According to Matviy Bidny, the statistics from the State Border Guard Service do not confirm an increase in departures, except for seasonal fluctuations (the beginning of the school and sports seasons in autumn). The decision to allow the departure of young people aged 18-22 aims to encourage their return, as opportunities for self-realization and careers in Ukraine are much greater than abroad.
“Since the first days of the great war, we have been working with these figures, clarifying them. In three and a half years, the total number of athletes and coaches who went abroad is about 500 people. Despite the tens of thousands of departures and returns. There were also those who stayed and then returned,” he emphasized.
Sports Community and Prospects in Ukraine
The Minister also urged to compare the figures of youth outflow with other losses in the sports sector, pointing to the importance of self-realization and career opportunities in Ukraine. He emphasized that athletes like Oleksandr Usyk, Olha Kharlan, and Elina Svitolina are fighting in the international media arena, drawing attention to Russia's crimes.
In the sports sector, very few people are reserved compared to other fields. Members of the national team and top sports clubs have the right to be reserved. The Minister called for discussing all aspects together, comparing the figures of youth outflow with other losses and achievements.
The Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny, believes that the outflow of Ukrainian youth abroad is not critical after the recent easing of travel restrictions for those aged 18-22. It is noted that the decision to allow young people to leave freely abroad contributes to their development, but it is important to stimulate their return, considering the opportunities for self-realization and careers in Ukraine.
