Repairs Underway at Lukyanivska Metro Station
Kyiv's Lukyanivska metro station is preparing to reopen its second exit, which was closed due to damage from Russian shelling. Officials plan to finish the work by the end of February. Currently, only the main exit number one, facing Yuri Illienko Street, remains operational. This reopening is a key part of restoring normal transit access for a major hub in the Ukrainian capital.
The station has been a repeated target of attacks, with its ground-level vestibule sustaining damage seven times since the start of the full-scale invasion. The most recent strike on the vestibule occurred on July 21, 2025, which harmed the station's above-ground section while leaving the underground platforms intact. Furthermore, a bus stop near the station was also damaged on the night of November 14, 2025.
Restoration Work and Public Transport Disruption
Municipal crews have begun removing fencing around the station. The estimated cost for the vestibule's major repairs in 2023 was set at 89,144.028 thousand hryvnias. Restoration work is ongoing, with specialists having already installed the first line of entrance doors. Previous attacks damaged the facade, stained-glass windows, glazing, and internal utility networks with missiles and debris.
The blocked bus stop has forced several public transport routes to drop off passengers in unsafe locations, affecting:
- Trolleybuses No. 6, 16, 18, 35
- Bus No. 50
- A number of minibus (marshrutka) routes
Preliminary completion of all works is scheduled for the end of February, according to the Department of Transport Infrastructure for the Kyiv Metro.
Restoring Lukyanivska Station is a crucial step in improving Kyiv's infrastructure, as it serves a large number of daily commuters. Reopening exit number two will not only provide safer access to the metro but will also improve conditions for bus and trolleybus passengers who were previously forced to use hazardous drop-off points. The planned late-February completion is expected to significantly ease transportation in this district of Kyiv.
